Brief Description:  Move to Plymouth, MA (PYM) airport

Been a couple of weeks since my last post. It took a while to finish the trailer with the ramps constructed of 2x8" pressure treated lumber. I estimated I'd need the main gear slightly aft of the axle so the CG was ahead of the axle and providing some added tongue weight. My brother Tom was in town from Nevada and helped work out details and finish the trailer. With the bed tilted, we discovered it was too much of an angle and the tail skid would touch the ground before the main wheels started up the ramp. Our solution was to start the nose wheel on the center ramp with the trailer tilted, place some car ramps between the mains and the trailer ramp, pull the plane up the car ramps, level the bed until even with the car ramps, and continued pulling the plane onto the trailer. A tricky complicated process but it finally worked. To pull the trailer up the ramp I used a 1000# capacity hand winch connected to my nose wheel tow bar. Total invested in the trailer is about $400 with winch, lumber and hardware.

I decided to follow Sonex' recommendation and removed the wings for transport to the airport, which is about 40 miles away. Even with the wing locks, the tips move about 1/2" and I didn't want them moving and possibly ending up with some ovaled holes at the wing locking pin holes. I also had the tips, ailerons, and cowlings off to fit them in my van. Once at the airport, it only took about 3 hours to unload, install the wings, ailerons, wingtips, cowlings and fabricate the tiedown ropes.
